I spent two years in what was called "Gay/Prostitute Ministry," while I was in college. This was a Student Ministry group and I was shocked to find out about the Metropolitan Community Church, where the Scriptures are regularly twisted to make homosexuality appear to be God-ordained.
With that in mind, let me answer your question...
Scripturally speaking, it is obvious that homosexuality is sin. God neither calls a sinner nor a backslider to ministry.
My thinking is this: If a drunk were to approach a pastor, with the desire to minister to a churchful of people, the pastor would expect restoration, first.
The same is true, with any sin. When the pastor of the Dallas (TX) MCC backslid and began saying he was annointed to prove God's love to the homo-
sexuals, he was deceiving not only himself but also those, who are sitting in the pews, weekly, waiting to be told they're pure. The backslidden Pentecostal pastor, in San Francisco, who began the MCC is no better.
So, to answer your question, simply realize that not everyone, who calls him/herself a minister of God is such. Remember, Jean Dixon said she is a "prophetess from God." She proved that wrong, when she mis-prophesied once.
However, this isn't to say someone cannot come out of sin and then minister. I've never met a perfect person (except for the Christ, Whom we pray to). If a homosexual is repentent, he/she is as much capable of serving in the ministry as any one of us. Past (forgiven) sins don't prevent one from service....unconfessed, unrepented sins do.
