: I am a new Christan and have a question about drinking beer. Am I suppose to give it up all together? I never had a problem and never had more then 3 in a sitting and never had more then 3 occasions a month. I am saying that it wasn't habit only social. No, I don't have to have it but I do like the taste. I don't ask the people in my church because I am afraid of being judged, even though they are not suppose to. Can some one help me out and maybe a scripture to follow.
the scripture that lori mentioned was one that popped into my mind when i read your post. i think you are fine to drink beer in moderation. keep in mind the reason you drink it though. you said you like the taste and i believe that is true. my husband also likes the taste of beer. he nurses one every blue moon it seems, but there was a time when he drank one a day (if it was in the house). he said it helped him relax after working hard all day. i didn't really have a problem with that, except we both noticed that suddenly he was "stressed" alot. he realized that he was conjuring up the feelings of stress to justify drinking beer. he realized that he was heading down a slippery slope. he was by no means violating any commandment or getting drunk or anything, but he was depending on something other than Christ to help him deal with something for one thing and then creating problems so he could "solve" them with beer.
There are churches that will judge you for your alcohol consumption. I find these churches to be quite hypocritical because they deny your christian liberty to have a beer but use it for themselves in many other areas of their lives.
that said, keep in mind that there are people who have a real problem with christians drinking. if you are with someone like that, even though you disagree, do not put a stumbling block before them and drink in front of them. for the sake of their walk with God, hold them up and support them in the rules that they have set for themselves. i'm not saying to hide the beer in the back of the fridge, just don't offer one and don't have one in front of them.
this is just my opinion and the way i see it. hope it helps a little.
